The founders of our firm were Thomas Marriott and Herbert Lloyd Oliver. Thomas Marriott was admitted to practice as a solicitor on 5 January 1884. He practiced for two years in Moruya before going to Sydney to have his constitutional admission confirmed. He arrived in Nowra on 30th August 1887 and immediately secured his first case. Thomas Marriott at once became a leader in all public activities from largely being responsible for the formation of the Nowra Volunteer Fire Brigade to becoming President of the Memorial Gate Committee and elected Patron of the Returned Soldiers League in Nowra. In August 1937, Nowra Council secured an area of five acres of land, directly opposite Marriott’s home, for use as a public park. This land was named “Marriott Park“ in his honour and today this naturally beautiful recreation area is one of the most popular parks in the Shoalhaven.
“In public and private life, in church and professional life, Thomas Marriott has set an example of which Shoalhaven and his adopted land might well feel proud.“ - Nowra Leader. November 1933.
Herbert Lloyd Oliver was admitted to practice law in New South Wales on 28 August 1914 having joined this practice as a partner immediately following his admission.
