Collaborative Family Lawyers
Grant Hodgson and Leonie Lockart are now practicing Collaborative Law.
Collaborative Law is a non-adversarial approach to solving disputes. It has been practiced in the United States and Canada for about 15 years and is now being practiced in a wide range of countries including UK and in some areas of Australia.
In the Collaborative Law process lawyers and their clients focus on settlement of the dispute rather than preparing for court action. In fact the lawyers and their clients sign an agreement that they will not go to court but will work together as a team to settle the matter as quickly as possible. If the matter does not settle then a client wishing to pursue court action would be referred elsewhere. The commitment by all concerned means however that Court action is rarely necessary.
Key elements in the process are said to be the free and voluntary exchange of information, a focus on the needs of the children and of the parties and a commitment to resolution. This contrasts with the traditional emphasis on “winning” in adversarial proceedings.
Leonie Lockart and Grant Hodgson two of the Family law lawyers at Marriott Oliver, have undergone specialist training which they can now use for the benefit of their clients. Not every matter is suited to resolution through Collaborative Law but these trained lawyers can advise you if your matter may be.
Several other Lawyers in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven area are presently under going Collaborative Law training and the lawyers at Marriott Oliver are confident that they will be joined by many of their colleagues in offering this service in the near future.
If a matter is not suited to the collaborative process the lawyers at Marriott Oliver are still well qualified to assist in resolution of the dispute in the more traditional manner. Grant Hodgson and Leonie Lockart are the only Lawyers in the Shoalhaven Accredited by the Law Society of NSW as Specialists in Family Law. Together they have years of experience which they use to the benefit of their clients.
